Simulation in Economics Instruction

Porter, T.S., Riley, T.M., and Ruffer, R.L. (2004). A Review of the Use of Simulations in Teaching Economics. Social Science Computer Review, 22(4), 426-443.

This article is an inclusive review of the literature on the use of simulations in economics instruction. It is the first thing to read if you are new to the topic.

Simulation in Physics Instruction

The PhET Interactive Simulations Research website contains a wealth of information on what makes simulations effective in physics instruction. Instructors across all disciplines will find this an exceptionally useful site on the design and implementation of effective instructional simulations.

Simulation Software for Economics

Mathematical software companies maintain archives of samples and demonstrations. The following links go directly to listings of files that are of direct interest to economists thinking about simulation applications of the software.

Journal of Economic Education

The Journal of Economic Education publishes occasional examples of classroom simulation. The content of each issue is shown on the Journal's web site. The Journal also maintains an Online Section of Accepted Web Sites, which includes some simulation examples.

Simulation Archive at CHEER

The Computers in Higher Education Economics Review (CHEER) has been publishing examples of simulations in economics and business for many years. You could search the CHEER for the keyword "simulation" in terms of relevance. You can adjust the search for date or add additional keywords to narrow the focus of your particular interest.
